The Gym Reopens 1/3/1927

The Gym was re-built (minus the rooftop symbolic statue) and re-opened its doors to the public on 1st March 1927. An article from a newspaper of the day read: The Ward Road, Dundee gymnasium which was destroyed by fire some years ago, has been re-built, and will be opened on March 1st to the public for gymnastics and indoor sports. The gymnasium has been equipped with the latest apparatus, and classes for ladies and businessmen, as well as boys and girls, will be held during the week. The method used in physical training will be the Swedish system while classes will be held in fencing and badminton. The first contest in the hall will be held on Wednesday 2nd march, between the Y.M.C.A. and the B.G.H.S. Welfare Club in the first round of the drill competition. Mr. George McDowell, who is well known in local gymnastic circles, has been appointed instructor, an appointment which should meet with general approval. Mr. McDowell is at present gymnastic instructor to the Deaf and Dumb Royal Institution for the Blind, and the Orphanage.
